Volunteer Opportunities!

SAFER Houston is growing and expanding! SAFER Houston was formed in 2008 and is now a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization.We are a volunteer run organization and we are looking for more volunteers!
 
Listed below are the positions we are looking to fill:
 
Board Members:
 
All board members are respononsible for attending board meetings from 11:30-12:30 pm every other Thursday via conference call as well as one annual in person board meeting. Positions and job descriptions as follows:
Events Coordintor- You will be responsible for planning the 2 annual family fun events. One to fall within Food Allergy Awareness Week (May) and the other to be an annual Halloween Party. Responsibilites include securing location, volunteers, donors, etc.
 
Webmaster- You will be responsible for keeping the SAFER Houston website up-to-date with new meetings and events, coordinating with Events Coordinator, sending out a weekly email update, moderating online message board, updating wordpress software, creating email addresses, etc.
 
Media Relations- You will be responsible for promoting SAFER Houston meetings and events with the media, coordinating with the Events Coordinator.
 
School Advisor- You will be responsible for keeping and reviewing FAAN donated school materials, available for our members to check out of our lending library. You will be the contact person for SAFER if a parent has a question about a school policy or situation.
 
Board Members at Large- You are responsible for identifying the needs for education and outreach in the community and helping facilitate new events.
 
Advisory Council:
 
We are in the process of putting together an advisory council of local professionals. They will be required to attend an annual in-person board meeting and will need to be available to advise us when the need arises. Time commitment for these positions is minimal and on an as needed basis. We are looking for an accountant, a lawyer and a school nurse to join the council. We already have a doctor as our medical advisor.
 
Local Area Leaders:
 
We are looking for several local area leaders to plan and facilitate local events, playdates, casual meetings, etc. You will be responsible for local activities and communicating with the board once a month via conference call or email. Local areas currently seeking leaders: North Houston, Katy, Kingwood/Humble, Central Houston, Pearland/Sugarland.
 
Previous professional experience is not necessary for some of these positions and all applicants will be considered. If you are interested in becoming involved in the food allergy community, here is your chance! We are looking for all skill levels, but most importantly, a passion for making a difference for all food allergic families. Please consider joining us in our efforts!
